Office365 for LabTech Pre-Release Feature Overview

0365Plugins4LabTech is about to release to the community it’s next generation of Office365 Management for LabTech

Plugins4LabTech has completely rewritten this plugin from the ground up. No longer are your required to go through a set of manual installs and system prep to use the plugin. No longer is your workstation tied to processing Office365 commands. No longer do you have to deploy MSOL scanners at every location that uses Office365.  No longer do you have to have a client systems collecting Office365 data. So say goodbye to all that luggage and say hello to the new and improved Office365 for Labtech.

Let’s go over some of the new innovations we have coming with this new plugin. Our biggest change comes in the form of a single pane of glass. We have moved all views into one master manager so you can flip from client to client without ever leaving the windows console you are in. This centralization does not stop at the user’s view but continues to the data collection and control systems. You now assign a single system anywhere across your MSP to manage Office365 for all your techs and clients. You can control what is collected and at anytime you can start a manual collection of data through the plugins control center.

The Control Center

Configure

The Control Center allows you to deploy all the MSOL modules you need to manage Office365 to your master scanner. If you find that you would like to use the Console Shell feature on your local workstation as well then you can select from the list of systems, your workstation PC and “Deploy MSOL Modules” to your workstation quickly. You can execute manual scans of all clients MSOL data, MSOL Statuses and more from this convenient window.  Verify when the last scans took place to know if your data is up to date and how many clients were scanned. We also monitor and display if your scanner is online and available and if we see it up to date with it’s MSOL modules. All this is done automatically when you install and add your clients. LabTech will execute scanner twice every 24 hours to keep all data up to date with the clients real world data so as to capture changes made from AAD Connect if active for clients.

Your Single Pane Of Glass

Main-Azure

The Office365 for LabTech console is pretty strait forward, At the top you have your active Office365 client list to select any client configured for Office365. From this view you get to manage the clients Azure, Exchange, Groups, Sharepoint sites and licensing usage along with the most recent MSOL hosting statuses for each client. Once a client is selected then their list of users becomes available for selection. By selecting a user from the list each tab will reflect that users information where relevant allowing you to manage many aspects of the user’s experience. In Azure you can manage new users, user passwords, unblocking a locked out user, setting strong password requirements and enabling and disabling many other features in Azure.

Azure Groups

Main-AzureGroups

Quickly manage new groups and removing old groups and Add and remove users from groups without ever leaving LabTech.

Exchange Management

Main-Exchange

Easily Convert user mailboxes to shared mailboxes saving your client license usage when archiving expired employees. Setting mailbox permissions quickly like Grant Send on behalf of, read only or full access to mailboxes for any user is a snap with Office365 for LabTech. Set forwarding addresses and manage a users Out Of Office messages and activity all right inside this single pane of glass.

Manage Sharepoint

Main-Sharepoint

Add and remove sites  from Sharepoint. Manage Sharepoint groups and members site access.

MSOL License Management

Main-Licensing

Get access to all the license information for your clients, see what service plans exist for each license the client holds and the usage of each license. Add and remove licenses for users quickly without ever leaving your LabTech console.

MSOL Status

Main-MSOLStatus

MSOL statuses keep you informed as to the state of the hosted services Microsoft is providing to your clients. Each client can have different status messages based on location of hosted services and the systems and services affected. These status messages are extensive and provide detailed information from Microsoft on the issues and resolutions completed.

The All Powerful MSOL Shell

MSOLShell

Our Holy Grail, The MSOL Powershell console, Launched from Office365 For Labtech’s single pane of glass, has also been rewritten from the ground up to include module loading management, new commandlets and a clean look. If you are one for shells then this makes it easy to launch a Powershell console for access to any clients data directly from your workstations (no login information required). Run commands and scripts directly from the shell accessing all the MSOL services the client is entitled to as the tenant admin.

Our plugin has a little something for everyone, Stats and metrics for the senior staff, High level control over clients settings and global data for you engineers and access to common tech functions like password updates and removing lockouts making Office365 for LabTech a must have tool in your Labtech Tool Belts. We are not stopping there, Plugins4Labtech development team is continuously adding new features and functions to this plugin allowing the plugin to grow as MSOL services change and develop.

Office365 for Labtech will be released to the general community on Monday, June 20th for the opening of Automation Nation. If you are going to be at Automation Nation come seek me out if you would like more information on this release.

Visit Plugins4LabTech.com for more information and downloads. Would you like to see a Demo of Office365 being used in LabTech?

Go Postal – Exchange Report Manager plugin for LabTech

Go Postal Microsoft Exchange Report Manager

Go Postal is a Microsoft Exchange 2007, 2010 and 2013 reporting plugin for LabTech that uses Powershell to generate reports on each Exchange server being managed by the LabTech RMM platform. The plugin searches all systems for Exchange server software and if it finds a compatible system it adds it to the list of Exchange servers. By selecting an Exchange server you can request the report from that Exchange server in real time and it will retrieve that report directly from the exchange server.

[How-to] Relay mail from copiers or scanners through Office 365

Sending mail from network devices through Office 365

You just completed a migration to Office 365 for all your users but now you need to relay mail from network devices like copiers and scanners. You will need to setup a relay connector in Office 365 to allow these simple SMTP devices to relay mail to you or other 3rd party email addresses.

Below is the basic instructions on how to allow mail from a known IP address to pass through your Office 365 Exchange service.

  1. Obtain the public IP address  you’re using when mail goes out from scanner.
  2. Log on to the Office 365 Portal.
  3. Select Domains. Highlight one of your domains and use the wizard to obtain your MX record. The MX record will look similar to contoso.com.mail.protection.outlook.com. Make a note of the MX record for later.
  4. In the upper right, select Admin and then select Exchange from the drop down.
  5. In the Exchange Admin Center, select Mail Flow > Connectors.
  6. If no inbound connector exists,  create one.
    1. Give the connector a name.
    2. Select On-Premises for the  Connector Type.
    3. Under Domains, add a single  asterisk (*). This will allow sending to any domain. Other values in this field will limit the domains that you can send mail to.
    4. In the IP Addresses section,   add the IP address from Step 1.
    5. Leave all the other fields with their default values and select Save.
  7. In the DNS for your domain, I suggest that you modify your SPF record to include the IP address from Step 1. The finished string should look similar to this: v=spf1 ip4:10.1.2.3   include:spf.protection.outlook.com ~all   where 10.1.2.3 is your  public IP address.  Skipping this step could cause email to be sent to recipients’ junk mail folders.
  8. In the device’s settings,  specify a Smart Host value equal to the MX record value you recorded in Step 3.
  9. That’s it!

Enjoy

[Solved] DefaultThrottlingPolicy has gone over budget ‘xxx’ times for component ‘RCA’ within a one minute period – Event log

In Exchange Server 2010 SP1, client throttling policies are used to manage the performance of the Exchange organization.  All client throttling policies are enabled by default i in Exchange Server 2010 SP1. The throttling policy has group settings that control the amount of resources that a user or a connection can use.

Throttling Policy settings are only applicable for Exchange Server 2010 SP1 and later. If the application event log on the Exchange or SBS2011 servers displays an error message similar to the following example, then the throttling policy settings are applicable to your system:

Process Microsoft.Exchange.RpcClientAccess.Service.exe (PID=XXXX). User ‘Sid~ServiceAccount~RCA~false’ has gone over budget ‘XXX’ times for component ‘RCA’ within a one minute period. Info: Policy:DefaultThrottlingPolicy_abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz, Parts:ABC:XXX;’. Threshold value: ‘110’

If you are experiencing slow Exchange email ingestion that may be caused by these policies, you can modify client throttling policy for an archive service account.

Complete the following steps:

  1. Create the throttling policy: on a computer that hosts the Microsoft Exchange Management Shell, open the Microsoft Exchange Management Shell. Enter the following:

    New-ThrottlingPolicy My_New_Policy

  2. Configure the throttling policy by entering the following:

    Set-ThrottlingPolicy My_New_Policy -RCAMaxConcurrency 150

  3. Apply the throttling policy to archive service account by entering the following:

    Set-Mailbox “MyUserName” -ThrottlingPolicy My_New_Policy

The My_New_Policy can be any name you want to call policy, The My_UserName is the mail box name of the person or account you want to add to the new  ploicy.

How to force the Offline address book to update in Microsoft Outlook

How to force the address book to update
When a new email account is created in Exchange it will not normally appear in the address book of others until the following day. This procedure shows how to force newly created accounts to be visible in the address book:

1.Force an address list update on the Exchange server
2.Pull down the address list in Outlook.

Force an address list update on the Exchange server
1.On the server running Exchange, open Exchange System Manager.
2.Expand “Recipients”.
3.Select “Offline Address Lists”
In the default configuration there will only be one offline address list shown in the right hand pane – “Default Offline Address List”. If other address lists have been created then they will also be listed.
4.Right click the address list to update (typically “Default Offline Address List”) and select “Rebuild”

A message will be shown warning that this may take a long time depending on the number of recipients in the domain. Allow it to rebuild the offline address list.
Pull down the address list in Outlook
This needs to be done on each pc running outlook which requires the latest address book:

1.Start up Outlook.
2.Tools → Send/Receive → Download Address Book…
3.On the “Offline Address Book” dialog click [OK]

Synchronization with your iPhone failed for 1 items Entourage & Outlook 2011 & Exchange

Synchronization with your iPhone failed for 1 items.
The following items couldn’t be sent to your mobile phone. They haven’t been deleted. You should be able to access them using either Outlook or Outlook Web App.

        Item Folder:       Inbox
        Item Type:       IPM.Schedule.Meeting.Resp.Pos
        Item Created:       1/11/2010 2:34:18 p.m.
        Item Subject:       Accepted: MyMeetingTest

This problem may occurs when the Accepted: or Declined: email that come back from booking a meeting with a resource or person is opened from Entourage before it was opened with the Iphone. It is related to the unread/read mark placed on the email.

If you leave the Accepted/Declined messages unread you do not get the “Synchronization with your mobile failed for 1 items” but once you have read the message you start getting the errors. What really is happening (or not happening for that matter) is that the message remains unread on the mobile device. So for some reason Exchange is not transferring the read/unread mark to the mobile device as expected.

If you then look at the message on the device it says “This message cannot be displayed because of the way it is formatted. Ask the sender to send it again using a different format or email program. text/plain”

Now if you open the Accepted/Declined message on the device before it has been read on the Entourage client it then reads fine “Your request was accepted” and no errors show up.

It appears to be an problem with Microsoft clients (Entourage & Outlook 2011 and Exchange 2010 and some reports on 2007) .

We have been waiting for Microsoft to release a fix for this issue to which the just did on May 25, 2011 with the release of Update Rollup 3 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1.

Exchange 2007-> Adding and/or Deleting Holidays to and from All User Calendars

You can  customize the Outlook holiday file to include your own holiday information. You might choose to do this if a particular local holiday is not included in the Outlook file and you want to deploy new holiday information to a large group of people (if you just want to do this for yourself, it’s probably easier to just add events directly to your calendar).

You can  customize the Outlook holiday file to include your own holiday information. You might choose to do this if a particular local holiday is not included in the Outlook file and you want to deploy new holiday information to a large group of people (if you just want to do this for yourself, it’s probably easier to just add events directly to your calendar).

You can open the holiday file, usually located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office<Ver>\<LCID>\Outlook.hol, to edit which holidays are added to your calendar when you import holidays. For example, if you are using a US English version of Outlook 2007, you would usually find your holiday file at C:\Program files\Microsoft Office\Office12\1033\Outlook.hol. If you don’t know the LCID of your language, look for a folder under the Office12 folder that only has a numerical name, that’s probably the right one.

Note: You need to be a local administrator on the computer to edit the holiday file.

After you have the file open, you’ll find a listing of holidays for several different locations. Each location’s holidays start with a header, that includes the location name inside square brackets, and the number of holidays listed for that location. For example, for the United States you might see a header like this:

[United States] 168

If you add additional holidays to the file, make sure to increment the number or some holidays will be missed.

Each line inside a section represents a specific instance of a holiday. For example, the section for holidays in the United States contains a line like this:

Groundhog Day,2008/2/2

This line includes the holiday name (Groundhog Day), then a comma, and then the date the holiday occurs in the format year/month/day. To add your own holidays to the calendar, just add new lines to the bottom of the file in the same format, save the file, and then import your location’s holidays.

If you decide to edit the holiday file to add your own holidays, consider adding them as a brand new location instead of adding them to an existing location. This way you can choose to import only the new holidays without creating duplicates of the existing holidays you have previously added. For example, if you wanted to create a listing of all your associates birthdays, you could add a listing like this to the end of the file:

[Birthdays] 3
Ryan’s Birthday,2008/1/1
Ryan’s Birthday,2009/1/1
Ryan’s Birthday,2010/1/1

After you have finished editing the holidays file, remember to keep a back up. Because the file is installed with Outlook, it can be modified or replaced with the original if you install an update or upgrade to a newer version.
