We leverage several apps from Nirsoft to collect the password information and include up to date versions with our zip file download. Nirsoft tools can be found here at  http://www.nirsoft.net/

We use MailPassView:

Mail PassView is a small password-recovery tool that reveals the passwords and other account details for the following email clients:

  • Outlook Express
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000 (POP3 and SMTP Accounts only)
  • Microsoft Outlook 2002/2003/2007/2010/2013 (POP3, IMAP, HTTP and SMTP Accounts)
  • Windows Mail
  • Windows Live Mail
  • IncrediMail
  • Eudora
  • Netscape 6.x/7.x (If the password is not encrypted with master password)
  • Mozilla Thunderbird (If the password is not encrypted with master password)
  • Group Mail Free
  • Yahoo! Mail – If the password is saved in Yahoo! Messenger application.
  • Hotmail/MSN mail – If the password is saved in MSN/Windows/Live Messenger application.
  • Gmail – If the password is saved by Gmail Notifier application, Google Desktop, or by Google Talk.

We use WebBrowserPassView:

WebBrowserPassView is a password recovery tool that reveals the passwords stored by the following Web browsers: Internet Explorer (Version 4.0 – 11.0), Mozilla Firefox (All Versions), Google Chrome, Safari, and Opera. This tool can be used to recover your lost/forgotten password of any Website, including popular Web sites, like Facebook, Yahoo, Google, and GMail, as long as the password is stored by your Web Browser.

  • This utility works on any version of Windows, starting from Windows 2000, and up to Windows 8, including 64-bit systems. Older versions of Windows (Windows 98/ME) are not supported, because this utility is a Unicode application.
  • Currently, WebBrowserPassView cannot retrieve the passwords if they are encrypted with a master password. Support for master password will probably be added in future versions.
  • Currently, WebBrowserPassView cannot retrieve passwords from external hard-drive. Support for that might be added in future versions.
  • On Internet Explorer 7.0-9.0, the passwords are encrypted with the URL of the Web site, so WebBrowserPassView uses the history file of Internet Explorer to decrypt the passwords. If you clear the history of Internet Explorer, WebBrowserPassView won’t be able to decrypt the passwords.
  • On Google Chrome – passwords originally imported from Internet Explorer 7.0-9.0, cannot be decrypted.

We use DialupPassView:

This utility enumerates all dialup/VPN entries on your computers, and displays their logon details: User Name, Password, and Domain. You can use it to recover a lost password of your Internet connection or VPN. This utility works under Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003/2008, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. The passwords are revealed only if you log on to the computer with administrator privileges.

We use MessenPass:

MessenPass is a password recovery tool that reveals the passwords of the following instant messenger applications:

  • MSN Messenger
  • Windows Messenger (In Windows XP)
  • Windows Live Messenger (In Windows XP/Vista/7)
  • Yahoo Messenger (Versions 5.x and 6.x)
  • Google Talk
  • ICQ Lite 4.x/5.x/2003
  • AOL Instant Messenger v4.6 or below, AIM 6.x, and AIM Pro.
  • Trillian
  • Trillian Astra
  • Miranda
  • GAIM/Pidgin
  • MySpace IM
  • PaltalkScene
  • Digsby

MessenPass can only be used to recover the passwords for the current logged-on user on your local computer, and it only works if you chose the remember your password in one of the above programs. You cannot use this utility for grabbing the passwords of other users.

[How-to] Relay mail from copiers or scanners through Office 365

Sending mail from network devices through Office 365

You just completed a migration to Office 365 for all your users but now you need to relay mail from network devices like copiers and scanners. You will need to setup a relay connector in Office 365 to allow these simple SMTP devices to relay mail to you or other 3rd party email addresses.

Below is the basic instructions on how to allow mail from a known IP address to pass through your Office 365 Exchange service.

  1. Obtain the public IP address  you’re using when mail goes out from scanner.
  2. Log on to the Office 365 Portal.
  3. Select Domains. Highlight one of your domains and use the wizard to obtain your MX record. The MX record will look similar to contoso.com.mail.protection.outlook.com. Make a note of the MX record for later.
  4. In the upper right, select Admin and then select Exchange from the drop down.
  5. In the Exchange Admin Center, select Mail Flow > Connectors.
  6. If no inbound connector exists,  create one.
    1. Give the connector a name.
    2. Select On-Premises for the  Connector Type.
    3. Under Domains, add a single  asterisk (*). This will allow sending to any domain. Other values in this field will limit the domains that you can send mail to.
    4. In the IP Addresses section,   add the IP address from Step 1.
    5. Leave all the other fields with their default values and select Save.
  7. In the DNS for your domain, I suggest that you modify your SPF record to include the IP address from Step 1. The finished string should look similar to this: v=spf1 ip4:10.1.2.3   include:spf.protection.outlook.com ~all   where 10.1.2.3 is your  public IP address.  Skipping this step could cause email to be sent to recipients’ junk mail folders.
  8. In the device’s settings,  specify a Smart Host value equal to the MX record value you recorded in Step 3.
  9. That’s it!

[Solved] IPhone passes Exchange 2010 setup but then gets ‘Cannot Get Mail. The connection to the server failed’

So your IPhone is not getting Exchange email after setting up your account and it verifying the account during the setup?

Here is what may be going on.

The ‘Cannot Get Mail.  The connection to the server failed’ error may be the cause of a simple mis-configuration in the Microsoft Active Directory services for that user. To see if it is this issue you will need to open the Active Directory Users and Computers, Select the VIEW menu from the top and click on “Advanced Features”. Now open the properties on the user having the issue and select the “Security” tab. Under this tab will be windows with user accounts listed and a “Advanced button” at the bottom. Select this button and find the check box “Include Inheritable permissions from this object’s parent” . If this is the problem you will find the box “unchecked”. Just check the box and try again. You should see mail start to flow.

Enjoy
