Sign in to Microsoft Lync failed because the service is not available or you may not be connected to the Internet on a Mac

How to get Lync to connect

Your company has setup an local or Office 365 Microsoft Lync service and you are having a hard time connecting to it using your Mac. When you put in your information you receive the following error back – “”Sign in to Microsoft Lync failed because the service is not available or you may not be connected to the Internet“.

I had a similar problem recently and found through digging around that actually I was having a SSL failure where the Mac was rejecting the unknown CA authority that signed Microsofts “sipdir.online.lync.com” URL used to connect to Office 365’s Lync services. We had to import the SSL into our key ring manually and then assign the always trust to the certificate.

By default the SSL imported into “Microsoft Intermediate Certificates” inside of the Key Ring Manager , you need to double click this certificate to pop the information box on the certificate, find the Trust drop down which should expose the selection boxes that will allows you to set the trust level on the certificate. Set it to Always Trust, now 2 finger click on SSL certificate and select copy certificate.  Next select the System folder inside of the Key Ring Manager then 2 finger click in the right panel of the System Folder view and select paste “certificate name” so that the certificate is now in both places.

Launch Lync, place Active Directory email address in the email box and in the user ID box and your domain password to log in.

How to import the SSL cert from Microsoft.

You can download here or from a Windows box, Goto https://sipdir.online.lync.com/  in Chrome and the following should appear.

mac-lync-cert-chrome1

Now click the green pad lock to bring up the Permissions and Connections property box. and select the Connection tab. Then select the Certificate Information link.

mac-lync-cert-chrome

This properties box should appear, select the details tab and then the copy to file button to launch the export wizard and export the SSL (using the defaults only) to a file.

mac-lync-cert

Now copy that file over to your Mac or zip it up and email it to an account accessible via the Mac system and follow the import process above on all Mac systems that have issues connecting.

[Solved] iTunes – The procedure entry point sqlite3_dll wal checkpoint could not be located in the dynamic link library SQLite3.dll

iTunes 10 Fails to Backup iPhone or log in to iTunes Account

This week I was presented with a new problem.  A user was unable to back up her iPhone, log onto her iTunes account. Or run any updates on the device. Very frustrating for the user.  To top it off, every time her computer booted up, she received the following error:  “The procedure entry point sqlite3_dll wal checkpoint could not be located in the dynamic link library SQLite3.dll.” or similar error with Mobile update in the text also appeared.

After uninstalling  all apple products and re-installed iTunes, the problem still persisted.  Usually, when going to the iTunes store and no music shows up, a simple net winsock will fix the issue, however no dice here.  After some research, it appears that this is an issue that happens with some iTunes 10 installs.   It appear that this sqlite file does not always get placed in the appropriate area.  Anyway, if you come across this problem here is the fix.  I don’t think I have ever seen a client rush to buy music, as she did today!

To fix the dll error, go to this folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
Right click and copy this file.

SQlite3.dll
Next, go to this folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
Right  click and paste the file into the folder.

You don’t have to delete the file from the copy location, it actually needs to be in both places.

Good luck

[Solved] IPhone passes Exchange 2010 setup but then gets ‘Cannot Get Mail. The connection to the server failed’

So your IPhone is not getting Exchange email after setting up your account and it verifying the account during the setup?

Here is what may be going on.

The ‘Cannot Get Mail.  The connection to the server failed’ error may be the cause of a simple mis-configuration in the Microsoft Active Directory services for that user. To see if it is this issue you will need to open the Active Directory Users and Computers, Select the VIEW menu from the top and click on “Advanced Features”. Now open the properties on the user having the issue and select the “Security” tab. Under this tab will be windows with user accounts listed and a “Advanced button” at the bottom. Select this button and find the check box “Include Inheritable permissions from this object’s parent” . If this is the problem you will find the box “unchecked”. Just check the box and try again. You should see mail start to flow.

Enjoy

To get Spirit.exe for Windows to jailbreak your Iphone, Ipod, or Ipad

goto SpiritJB.com
Make sure your iPhone is on, in normal mode, and connected to the computer via your USB cable. Open Spirit – it will see your device and show it’s ready.

Select JailBreak

WINDOWS  7 FOLKS: If you’re getting error code c0000005, apparently setting compatibility mode to Windows 98 allows Spirit to work.
Your iPhone will show a “Restore Complete” screen (don’t worry, it’s not deleting any of your info/content), and Spirit will show Jailbreak Complete.

Allow it to reboot and run through its installer, once complete you will see your slider bar and you can access your phone. I suggest you look for and run the Cydia and install any updates with your WiFi turned on.
